Who these terms apply to

These terms are an agreement between you and AI Patterns, the operator of aipatterns.dev. By using the site, creating an account, or connecting a client to its interfaces, you accept them. If you use the service on behalf of an organization, you confirm you are allowed to bind that organization to these terms.

The service

AI Patterns is a free, publicly readable reference for design patterns, refactoring techniques, code smells and guides, written for AI coding agents and the people who run them. Every page is also available as Markdown over HTTP, and the site exposes a read-only MCP (Model Context Protocol) server and installable agent skills.

Creating an account lets you sign in to the MCP server and issue OAuth tokens to your own clients. MCP tool calls are metered per identity with a daily allowance (currently 100 calls per UTC day). We may change the service, its features, and its limits at any time.

Accounts

• Provide accurate information when you register, and keep it current. Sign-up requires a name, email address and password; signing in with GitHub is optional.
• Keep your credentials and issued tokens secret. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account.
• Email verification is offered but not required to use the service.
• We may suspend or remove accounts that break these terms, abuse the service, or create risk for other users.

Acceptable use

• Respect the technical limits of the service, including the daily MCP tool-call allowance. Do not attempt to circumvent rate limits or quotas.
• Do not attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service, other accounts, or our infrastructure, and do not interfere with the service’s operation.
• Do not use the service for unlawful purposes or to upload unlawful content (for example, as an avatar image).
• Automated access must go through the interfaces we publish for it: the MCP server, the Markdown mirrors, and the installable skills.

Content and intellectual property

All writing and code on aipatterns.dev is original and owned by AI Patterns. You may read, link to, quote, and make personal use of the content, and you may use the Markdown mirrors and skills with your own coding agents as the site describes. Republishing the content in bulk, or presenting it as your own, is not permitted without permission.

Availability

The service is provided as-is and as-available. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation, and we may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of it at any time.

Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, AI Patterns will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the service. This limitation applies even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Termination

You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these terms.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always on this page with its last-updated date. Significant changes to the service itself may also be announced on the site. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
